Job Title: General Counselor

Qualifications:

1. Must be 18 years old, or 16 years old for Day Camp

2. At least a high school graduate.

3. Emotional maturity, good character, integrity, flexible, ability to adapt to camp setting.

4. A liking for children and an enjoyment of the outdoors.

5. Good physical condition.

6. Experience working with children and commitment toward the development of youth in a positive direction.

7. Must pass required background check and submit 3 character references

8. Must participate in Camp Sunrise Staff Orientation

9. Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self control

10. Accepts guidance and supervision

11. Ability to take and follow directions.

12. Works well with others and can relate with staff members.

13. Optional: ARC- First Aid or CPR

General Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and guidance of a group of 8 or less campers above the age of 8.

2. Participation and planning of the group and overall camp program.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. To interpret health and safety regulations to the group, teaching by word and example, consistently requiring safe behavior for campers.

2. Always know where campers are, assuring that each camper in their care is visually supervised by staff.

3. Develop a caring relationship with each camper in their care responding to individual needs, backgrounds, strengths, and interests.

4. Help campers in their care to respect and appreciate all other people.

5. Help campers in their care to respect and appreciate nature.

6. Instruct, organize and guide campers in cabin, unit and all camp activities.

7. Reside in a cabin with 6-8 campers while providing leadership and guidance for them in:

A. Personal Hygiene and Safety

B. Independent daily-living skills

C. Camper planning of activities and cabin rules

8. Implement camp rules and procedures

9. Report immediately irregularities, incidents, and breeches of conduct.

10. To keep group leader abreast of all problems within the group and to work closely with him in their solutions.

11. To prepare camper evaluation reports as required.

12. To promote the goals, values and objectives of Camp Sunrise .
