Job Title: Head Counselor

Qualifications:

1. Minimum age of 21 years.

2. At least one year of college.

3. Previous supervisory experience.

4. Works well with others and can relate to one's peers.

5. Enjoys working with children.

6. Ability to accept guidance and supervision.

7. Ability to take and follow directions.

8. Ability to supervise staff.

9. Good character, integrity, flexible, and possessing the ability to adapt to camp setting.

10. Enthusiastic, sense of humor, patient, possessing self-control.

11. Certified in ARC-CPR

12. Must have a valid driver's license

13. Must participate in Camp Sunrise Staff Orientation / Training.

14. Be in good physical condition.

15. Must pass background check and submit 3 character references.

General Responsibilities:

The Head Counselor is responsible for assisting in facilitating the implementation of a well rounded camping program that insures safety and participation of all those involved, and resolve conflict with counseling staff as well as problem solve with them.

Specific Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for assuring all children are the proper program areas at the proper time.

2. Helps counselors resolve problems with campers (conflict resolution).

3. Makes sure counselors and CITs are attentive to the children.

4. Makes sure in the evening all counselors return to their cabins on time.

5. Provide Camp Director with a report at the end of each session re: how counselors handled/did not handle their groups, giving suggestions.

6. Work with Program Director in assisting and implementing special events and themes.

7. Assist in developing “off duty” counselor schedule, helping with supervision.

8. Assist in daily flag ceremony.

9. Monitor activities when Program Director is not on the camp ground.

10. Assist in the assignment of campers to cabins.

11. Assist in organizing “Camper clean-up” activities.

12. Regularly monitor cleanliness and tidiness of camper cabins, bathhouses, litter or trash on the grounds, personal effects left at beach or in dining hall, ensuring a clean and pleasing environment.
