Job Title: Health Director Qualifications: 1. Physician, physician's assistant, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, emergency medical technician. 2. Current certification in ARC/CPR For the Professional Rescuer 3. All qualifications must comply with subpart 7-28 of NYS Sanitary Code 4. Must be on site. 5. Knowledge of residential camping situation as it pertains to health and sanitation supervision. 6. Emotional maturity and stability, good character, integrity, flexible, and the ability to adapt to camp setting. 7. Enjoys working with children. 8. Enthusiastic, sense of humor, patient and possesses self control. 9. Must participate in Camp Sunrise Staff Orientation/Training. 7. Willingness to participate in overall camp programs. 8. Most have current Driver's license. 9. Must pass required background checks. General Responsibilities: To assume responsibility for the total health, safety and sanitation of the camp. Specific Responsibilities: 1. Review emergency procedures, 2. Consult with the camp physician to concur on standing orders for the summer. 3. Review in staff training the following procedures: simple first aid, emergency and risk management, as well as each of the counselor's responsibilities in noting and reporting illness, injury or unsafe practices and conditions that might contribute to camper or staff accidents. Also, in reporting campers dietary habits as failure to eat a variety of foods, rapid gain or loss of weight, and any symptoms of disturbance such as restless sleep, nail biting, thumb sucking, bed-wetting, withdrawal or homesickness. 4. Make a physical check of campers upon their arrival to camp and review all health records discussing particular items with counselors concerned. 5. Administer all medications and treatments according to physician's order and keep record of such treatments. 6. Establish a special time of day for “sick call” and medication in consultation with Camp Director . 7. Take charge in situations requiring medical attention, referring to physician or emergency room when necessary. 8. 9. To advise the Camp Director and instruct the staff on all matters relating to health education, sanitation, accident prevention, and first aid. 10. To maintain the camp infirmary in good condition regarding sanitation, maintenance, repair and appearance, according to standards and regulations set by the Orange County Dept. of Health. 11. To maintain an ongoing inventory and requisition and replenish as needed all medical and first aid equipment and supplies. 12. To keep the Director apprised of the status of all aspects of the camp operation regarding health, safety and sanitation. 13. To periodically check and re-supply the first aid kits. 14. To inspect the camp each morning. 15. To participate in overall camp program as duties permit. 16. Maintain ongoing records and reports in compliance with Orange County Department of Health and Palisades Interstate Park Commission. 17. Check campers' living quarters daily for health and safety conditions 18. Monitor activities when Camp Director is not on camp grounds. |
