Job Title: Aquatics Waterfront Director  

Qualifications:

1. Must be at least 21 years of age

2. Must have a minimum of three seasons of previous waterfront experience as a lifeguard or have prior experience as a camp aquatics director.

3. Must have currant CPR certifications

4. Must be either a qualified lifeguard or a “Progressive Swimming Instructor”. (If not PSI , cannot assess swimmers' abilities.)

5. Must have “Waterfront Module”.

6. Must possess American Red Cross (ARC) Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer.

7. Must pass required background checks.

Responsibilities:

1. To supervise all on-site waterfront activities. (Includes staff and campers).

2. Must train and co-ordinate lifeguards, making sure all swimming and boating activities are supervised by 1 lifeguard per 25 swimmers.

3. Must train the lifeguards in the implementation of the “buddy check”, making sure it occurs every 15 minutes.

4. Must devise a clear system to distinguish between swimmers and non swimmers.

(Colored swim caps are suggested), making sure swimmers stay in appropriate safe swim areas.

5. Must make sure the beach is cleaned and raked, free from trash and goose droppings each morning, and life jackets and boats are stored away properly at the end of each day.

6. Must check the swimming area each morning for branches, rocks, broken glass or other safety hazards.

Must close gate at the dock blocking access when lifeguard is not on duty.

7. Must make sure, together with the Health Director, that the first aid and rescue equipment are in good order.

8. Must make sure the buddy board, beach signage and depths painted on the docks are fresh, clear and easy to read.
